We, the undersigned petition the National Council of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA), 45 Washington Street, Glasgow, G3 8AZ, United Kingdom as follows:

"As an RSPBA band member/RSPBA affiliate organisation band member, I hereby register my objection to the decision reached at the RSPBA Annual General Meeting of 8 March, 2008 to abolish Best Bass Section awards at all major competitions.

In doing so, I support the re-introduction of Best Bass Section awards on the basis of the following proposals:

• All recently abolished Best Bass Section awards be reinstated with immediate effect.
• The introduction of 2 additional Best Bass Section awards at the British and European Pipe Band Championships, underwritten by a coalition of serving Grade 1 bass and tenor drummers and entitled 'The Players' Cup'.
• The RSPBA Music Board invite consultation with serving bass and tenor drummers over devising and implementing a standardised, transparent and accountable set of adjudication criteria for the presentation of Best Bass Section awards.
• In consultation with serving bass and tenor drummers, the RSPBA Music Board and Adjudication Panel work together to investigate ways in which the contribution of bass sections can become a measured component of the pipe band adjudication process by introducing the addition of a specialised bass section adjudicator at major championships."
