TyFry™ has launched a commemorative limited edition model of Platinum tenor drum mallets for the 2008 World Pipe Band Championships. Exclusively available to a a handful of outlets, only 100 pairs have been produced for sale by selected TyFry™ dealers. In popular demand and only previously custom made, TyFry™ Platinums with pink furs will be on general sale for the first time ever. Wednesday 18 June, 2008 | SC Drumming Bring Back Our Best Bass Section Awards On 8 March, 2008, a vote was carried at the RSPBA AGM to abolish all Best Bass Section awards from major pipe band championships. The decision has effectively consigned almost 80 years of pipe band drumming history at every level to the bin. After consulting with a cast of pipe band musicians, Scott Currie launched an online campaign called 'Bring Back OUR Best Bass Section Awards', seeking the immediate reinstatement of the awards. The campaign provides information and links for interested pipe band musicians to find out about the abolition of the awards and invites supporters to sign an online petition in support of the campaign. Please support Bring Back OUR Best Bass Section Awards by signing the online petition and asking your band to register its objection to the abolition at your local branch meeting. The support of every pipe band musician will be greatly appreciated. Friday 21 March, 2008 | SC Drumming Innovation Gets Off The Ground New pipe band percussion education company Innovation Promotions launched their new Web site and announced a brand new event to take place in the Ontario city of London on 3 & 4 May, 2008. The company, which is owned by Scott Currie, Tyler Fry & Jim Kilpatrick MBE, aims to make the highest standards of pipe band drumming education available at events around the world. Innovation London features instruction from Scott, Tyler, Jim and world champions Craig Colquhoun, Drew Duthart and John Fisher, as well as a fabulous invitational solo drumming competition sponsored by Premier & Remo. Students and guests can register online for the weekend's events. London, Ontario looks like the place to be on 3 & 4 May. Monday 4 June, 2007 | SC Drumming Scottish Pipe Band Championships Recording Cancelled After an evening of gale force winds and horizontal rain at Levengrove Park; weather that has continued into early Saturday morning, a decision has been taken by the PipeDream-Studios team to abandon the recording of The 100 Pipers Scottish Pipe Band Championships. All products have been removed from our Web site and existing pre-orders will be refunded in full. Wednesday 2 May, 2007 | SC Drumming Totally Tenors - Total Success The Totally Tenors 3 seminar held in London, Ontario on 21 & 22 April, 2007 was hailed as a success by the 30 plus students who attended from Canada and the USA. Students from beginner to professional level attended tenor drumming classes and ensemble & composition presentations hosted by the invited instructors Scott Currie, Tyler Fry and Stephen McQuillan.
The highlight for many of the students was learning a full classic Alex Duthart drum fanfare while basking in the sunny gardens of Fanshawe College. Congratulations to organiser Penny Shewfelt for her fine efforts and hard work in creating such a great event. Monday 23 April, 2007 | SC Drumming St Thomas' Episcopal School Workshop Scott has just completed a 3 day long trip to Houston, Texas after being invited to instruct students of St Thomas' Episcopal School 'A', 'B' & 'C' Pipe Bands. The workshop involved classes with the bass and tenor drummers of the school's highly successful three-tier pipe band programme taught by school teacher Tyler Fry. The students display a high level of enthusiasm for their chosen art form and were were a pleasure to work with. The
Web site was founded by Shotts tenor drummer Scott Currie in
2001 and built by a team of experienced Grade 1 bass and tenor
drumming advisors including Trevor Buckley (Boghall & Bathgate
Caledonia), Mike Cole (Windsor Police), Tyler Fry (The House of
Edgar Shotts & Dykehead), Stephen Kilbride (ScottishPower), John
McFetridge (former FMM) and Stephen McQuillan (Boghall &
Bathgate Caledonia).
Initially created with the aim of being a focal point for
drummers seeking support, the site quickly developed into much
more than that and became a recognised brand for bass and tenor
drummers.
tenordrummer.com was a driving force behind the revival of
solo competition in the UK, helping to set the mandates for
competition, supplying adjudicators and sponsoring prizes. Most
recently, the group moved into instruction, adding the highly
successful Back to BASSics bass and tenor drumming workshop
to Glasgow's Piping Live! worlds week diary.
The editor Scott Currie said "As a group of enthusiasts,
we created the site with the intention of giving something back
to the art form by raising its profile throughout the pipe band
community. I think it is fair to say that we have played an
important role in influencing the development of the art form in
recent years and have definitely brought the the art form closer
together through fantastic networking facilities provided to us
by the late
Bob Dunsire and
Bob Norris.
The site has inspired many drummers to improve the standard of
their playing and has even inspired some to take up the art form
from scratch. The logistical and financial input of the Web site
has also helped bring solo competition back to Scotland and
introduced quality instructional events to Scotland similar to
those regularly held in North America. We are all proud of what
tenordrummer.com has achieved during the years and thank the
many musicians, bands and associations in the pipe band
community and our sponsors who have supported our work."

was essentially an enthusiast's hobby
site, it has far outgrown the time and energy that I
have available at my disposal to sustain its existence. Having
accomplished all of our goals and more, I felt that the time was
right to step aside."
The
Back to BASSics workshop has been held in Glasgow city centre
since 2005 and is usually announced around May/June prior to the
event in August. No plans have been completed in relation to a
2007 event at this time and discussions are at a very early
stage. "I would encourage past and prospective students to keep

Sunday 4 March, 2007 | SC Drumming Totally Tenors 3 Fast Approaching Scott will join Stephen McQuillan and Tyler Fry at Totally Tenors 3 in London, Ontario on 21 & 22 April, 2007 to instruct a two-day tenor drumming workshop held in Fanshawe College. In its third year, Totally Tenors has become a fantastic focal point for tenor drummers from the Ontario province, attracting around 50 drummers last year. This year's event has been expanded to two days of classes following numerous requests from the students. There is still plenty of time to enrol for the workshop.
